The Pregnancy Bucket List

There are many special moments that I wanted to be sure I experienced during this pregnancy. Hear the heartbeat: check. Feel the baby move: check. See the baby move: check (and ew....that looks like an alien in my belly). Feel the baby have hiccups: check. Check. Check. Become a huge beached whale that can barely walk. OMG check.

Next on my list: labor. This would include the first truly uncomfortable contractions at home; the call to my husband that it was "time"; my water breaking; the uncomfortable but exciting mad dash to the hospital; getting stuck in traffic and giving birth on the side of the road (optional).

But here it is, five days past my due date, and the doctor is telling me that all of those mildly uncomfortable contractions that I've been tracking day and night for weeks have done nothing. I'm not dilated at all, so here it is: time for induction.

I expect the doctor to say that we'll schedule the induction for Friday, but she surprises me and says, "Let's start tonight."

On our way to the hospital, I tell Jimmie that I feel like we're missing out on that mad dash to the hospital. Oh well. There's always next time, right?
